Rising concerns over AI chatbots prompt legislative action

State lawmakers have filed or pre-filed more than a dozen bills to regulate artificial intelligence chatbots amid rising concern that they can deceive consumers, harm kids or masquerade as therapists.

The blitz of bills, with more expected in the coming weeks, had been anticipated and reflects a dramatic uptick from a year ago when chatbot legislation was just beginning to emerge
