Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) signed a package of bills Thursday to expand background checks for gun purchases and require safe gun storage, two months after a gunman killed three students at Michigan State University.
She signed the bills on MSU’s campus, saying that she was “vacillating … between grief for those that we’ve lost and those that continue to live with the trauma inflicted by the daily gun violence in our county” and “gratitude that we are actually finally taking some steps.”
