Analysis: Red states move to preempt blue cities

Republican officials are taking action to thwart progressive policy at the local level.

When Republican governors, attorneys general and legislators stump before the party faithful, they win no bigger applause line than when they castigate an overactive federal government that tramples on states’ rights.

But in capitols across the country, those same officials are taking action to thwart progressive policy at the local level, blocking cities from implementing new rules and taking aim at duly elected local officials with whom they disagree.
