States move to bar cops from lying to kids

Indiana recently enacted a new law, and at least eight more have advanced similar measures.

Bipartisan legislation advancing in more than half a dozen states this year would prohibit police officers from giving false information to minors during interrogations, bills that both criminal justice advocates and police officials say will help improve law enforcement.

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb (R) signed legislation Monday that would make any statement made by a juvenile in response to a materially false statement made by a law enforcement officer inadmissible in court, with some narrow exceptions.
