Don’t count out Burgum, N.D. GOP lawmakers say

The second-term governor announced his presidential candidacy Wednesday in Fargo.

North Dakota lawmakers say no one should sleep on Doug Burgum, who on Wednesday became the second sitting governor to enter the Republican presidential nomination race but with far less standing in early polls than his colleague from Florida.

They say his business and legislative accomplishments, including enacting the state’s largest-ever tax cut, and his track record of consistently beating the odds mean he should be taken seriously even as a lesser-known contender in an increasingly crowded field.
