EVs could save states billions: Report

California would save the most money, followed by South Carolina and Texas.

States and localities could save nearly $11 billion in operating costs over 10 years if they phase out their primarily gas-powered vehicle fleets and switch to electric vehicles, according to a report from U.S. PIRG.

“EVs cost significantly less to operate and maintain than gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles due in large part to volatile gas prices, fewer moving parts and fewer fluids to replace,” said Diane Brown, executive director of the Arizona PIRG Education Fund, who helped author the report.
