Tech industry sues to overturn Ark. social media parental permission law

It is the first major test of state efforts to regulate youth online access.

In the first major test of state efforts to regulate youth online access, NetChoice, a leading tech industry trade group, is suing to overturn a new Arkansas law that requires minors to get their parents’ permission to have a social media account. 

The lawsuit, announced Thursday, argues that the Arkansas Social Media Safety Act violates the First Amendment, is unconstitutionally vague and is preempted by federal law.
