Calif. journalism usage fee bill tabled until 2024

It has faced fierce opposition from the tech industry.

A California legislative proposal to impose a “journalism usage fee” on tech giants such as Facebook and Google will be shelved for this year amid fierce opposition and questions about how the fee system would work.

Supporters of the bill in the Assembly, which passed it last month, and in the Senate say they plan to pick up the issue again next year.
