New York Democrats are reviving a decades-long quest to prove that a universal health care plan can succeed at the state level, with the reintroduction of a bill that would establish a comprehensive public health insurance program for all New York residents.
“Health care is a human right,” Sen. Gustavo Rivera (D) said at a press conference in Harlem last week. “And if we’re going to be the state that leads the nation in progressive policy, then let’s be the state that actually leads in this regard.”
