Amid ICE raids, states diverge on immigrant rights

Red states and blue states are pursuing diametrically opposed paths to expose or protect undocumented immigrants, as thousands of federal agents spread across the country making arrests and threatening deportations.

In just the first few days of new legislative sessions, Republican lawmakers have proposed measures to criminalize interfering with federal immigration actions. At the same time, Democrats have introduced and approved measures to protect undocumented people or to bar local law enforcement from cooperating with federal officials.
