New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) signed legislation that clears the way for what officials say will be a first-in-the-nation pilot program to use state-of-the-art technology to catch and ticket overweight trucks on the crumbling Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
The new law requires that the weigh-in-motion system will be calibrated every six months to ensure reliable measurements. Legislation was necessary for the program, which lawmakers first approved in 2021, to move ahead.
