Miss. gubernatorial clash officially kicks off

Democrats say Mississippi gubernatorial candidate Brandon Presley’s (D) folksy manner, centrist platform and humble beginnings — not to mention family connection to rock legend Elvis Presley — could forge a winning coalition of Black and white voters. 

A Presley victory in deep-red Mississippi over Gov. Tate Reeves (R), who won his primary overwhelmingly Tuesday, would shake up state government and invigorate Democrats up and down the ballot, said Rep. Cheikh Taylor, who serves as the state Democratic Party chair.
