Two projects in Louisiana and Texas are set to receive $1.2 billion in federal funds to deploy direct air capture technology, a first-of-its-kind attempt to help the country achieve its decarbonization targets, the U.S. Department of Energy announced Friday.
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said on a call with reporters that the projects would be the equivalent of “giant vacuums that can suck decades of old carbon pollution straight out of the sky.”
