Right to repair wins approval in Calif. Assembly

It received backing recently from some tech giants such as Apple.

The California Assembly approved a right-to-repair measure that consumer advocates are heralding as the strongest in the nation.

The bill, which was passed Tuesday evening with broad support, would allow individuals and third-party repair shops — rather than only authorized providers — to have access to the parts, tools and instructions necessary to make repairs.
