Moves in Florida and Virginia are two of the latest updates in both parties’ pushes to redraw congressional district lines.

An unprecedented round of mid-decade redistricting is picking up where it left off at the end of 2025, as state lawmakers race to approve new congressional district lines ahead of November’s midterm elections.

But with candidate filing periods and primary elections looming large — the first primary elections, in Arkansas, North Carolina and Texas, are just seven weeks away — legislators have little time to waste. In some states, lawmakers have conceded they have neither the time nor the votes to rig maps in their favor.
