Cities, counties pass anti-abortion ordinances

Activists are looking to localities to influence state and national laws.

Ordinances banning abortion have been passed in 67 cities and five counties in the year since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to an abortion, according to a report by abortion-rights group Reproductive Freedom for All.

Advocacy groups on both sides of the issue are turning to localities to influence or sometimes subvert new laws in the states. Reproductive Freedom for All, formerly known as NARAL Pro-Choice America, called them “the next frontier of anti-abortion attacks.”
