The Michigan House voted late Wednesday night to dismantle some abortion restrictions from state laws but stopped short of passing the entire package of bills known as the Reproductive Health Act.
Before the 56-54 party-line vote, the Democratic majority dropped some provisions to appease Rep. Karen Whitsett (D), whose vote they needed to pass the package, according to the Detroit News. The dropped provisions would have allowed Medicaid funding for abortions and eliminated a mandated 24-hour waiting period before obtaining abortions.
