The Texas House voted 84-63 on an amendment that strips language creating education savings accounts from a sprawling education funding bill, removing Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) top priority before the legislation could make it to the Senate.
Texas lawmakers have fought for months over whether to give parents public money to privately educate their children, regardless of income or whether the children had ever attended public school.
