Q&A: Zach Boyd, director of Utah’s Office of AI Policy

We caught up with him again to hear what’s next in a state leading on the issue.

Utah has taken a leading role among states in artificial intelligence policy, seeking a light touch to regulation while encouraging innovation. 

That strategy may help the state avoid running afoul of President Donald Trump’s efforts to block state-level AI rules. Lawmakers this year are poised to consider legislation that addresses companion chatbots and transparency, after last year passing the nation’s first law governing the use of mental health chatbots.
