Migrant boom spurs blue state govs to help cities

They’ve proposed a burst of new funding, along with connecting migrants to legal services and work permits.

Blue state leaders are stepping in to help cities fund services for migrants, as congressional Republicans rejected a bipartisan border security deal that would have provided $1.4 billion to cities and nonprofits swamped by new arrivals.

With cities being overwhelmed, Democratic governors urged President Biden and Congress to reduce border crossings, speed up immigration claim processing and help localities cover the cost of the migrant surge.
