States see rising uninsured rates, shift to cheaper ACA plans

In the week after the Affordable Care Act open enrollment period closed in most states, state health insurance officials are reporting a steep rise in the number of people forgoing coverage or opting for lower-priced, flimsier plans. 

The coverage drops reported in multiple states are the first indicators of the strain on the country’s health system as millions of people confront premium increases due to the expiration of federal tax subsidies at the end of last year.
