Bipartisan effort to tax social media gains momentum

It comes amid a broader effort by state leaders to protect young people from harmful content online.

Governors and lawmakers in at least nine states this year want to tax social media companies, in the latest sign of growing concern about the platforms’ impacts on young people and society.  

Lawmakers in California, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island and Utah have proposed taxing tech giants’ digital advertising revenue.
