Wash. state legislators pass tax on high incomes

Democrats in other states have also proposed raising taxes on households that earn more than $1 million a year.

Washington state is on track to tax earned income for the first time in its history.

After hours of heated debate, the House and Senate have given final approval to legislation that would impose a 9.9% tax on incomes over $1 million starting on Jan. 1, 2028. Democratic Gov. Bob Ferguson has said he will sign the “millionaires tax” bill.
