Trump urges Congress to preempt state AI laws

Trump’s policy framework seeks to limit state influence on artificial intelligence.

President Donald Trump on Friday urged Congress to preempt “cumbersome” state artificial intelligence laws and prohibit states from regulating AI development, the latest salvo in a recurring federal push to thwart state-level regulations.

The call for preemption was contained in a four-page National Policy Framework on AI that outlined the elements of a light-touch national standard for AI development.
