Sweeping N.Y. chatbot bill draws tech opposition

It would cover AI chatbots impersonating more than a dozen types of licensed professionals, including veterinarians.

A powerful tech industry group is pushing back for the first time against state chatbot legislation, aiming to halt New York lawmakers’ efforts to prevent the artificial intelligence-powered platforms from impersonating licensed professionals.

The Consumer Technology Association, which represents more than 1,200 tech companies, says the legislation would interfere with chatbots providing basic information while exposing companies to frivolous lawsuits.
