States act to increase housing supply, ease affordability crisis

Lawmakers in 40 states filed more than 400 bills on the issue.

Several state legislatures have passed laws this year removing barriers to home building, part of an election-year push by lawmakers to make buying or renting a home more affordable for families.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed two bills last week, while lawmakers in Virginia and Washington also passed major legislation. Hundreds more bills are pending nationwide.
