Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson last week signed off on ending a sales tax break for data center equipment, as lawmakers in at least four other states continue debating shrinking or scrapping tax breaks for the facilities.
Bill sponsors say data center tax breaks cost money that would be better spent on state services, such as public schools, or on income tax breaks for families. They’re also responding to constituents protesting huge data centers planned for their communities.
