Mills vetoes Maine data center moratorium

The governor cited the loss of potential jobs and tax revenue for a region that needs it.

Gov. Janet Mills vetoed legislation that would have made Maine the first state to enact a moratorium on data center development.

The Democrat, who is running for the U.S. Senate, said Friday she rejected the bill — which would have banned data centers larger than 20 megawatts until November 2027 — because she feared it would halt a proposed data center project in a town north of Lewiston.
