Self-driving car companies would have to report collisions, traffic violations and malfunctions to the California Department of Motor Vehicles on an ongoing basis under legislation formally introduced Monday in Sacramento.
The bill from Assemblymember Matt Haney (D) is part of a broader legislative effort this year to stiffen the rules around autonomous vehicles after a series of incidents in San Francisco, including the cars blocking intersections and interfering with emergency vehicles, and a high-profile crash involving a pedestrian who was critically injured.
