Oregon initiative would ban hunting, fishing

More than 125,000 Oregonians have signed a proposed ballot measure that would specifically criminalize hunting and fishing, a first-of-its-kind proposal that could change the contours of the state’s agricultural economy.

The measure, the Oregon Remove Animal Cruelty Exceptions Initiative, would be the widest-ranging animal protection law in America. It would criminalize breeding practices and injuring and killing animals for food, pest control and research or teaching purposes.
