Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird (R) and eight other GOP attorneys general on Tuesday sued to block a federal rule requiring most publicly traded companies to disclose greenhouse gas emissions and climate risk, such as susceptibility to extreme weather.
The lawsuit argues that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which finalized the disclosure rule last week, can only implement the mandate with an act of Congress. The plaintiffs also contend that the rule is the result of overreach by President Biden, who is using his administration to tackle climate change despite its adverse effects on consumers and businesses.
