R.I. poised to join states testing thermal heating and cooling networks

Rhode Island is poised to join a growing number of states aiming to cut costs for consumers and reinforce the grid by requiring utility companies to study the use of thermal energy networks to heat and cool homes and buildings.

Companion bills were overwhelmingly approved by the Senate on Thursday and the House on Tuesday, and now head to Democratic Gov. Dan McKee.
