Candidates running for governor and the outside groups that support them have spent more than $1 billion on television and digital advertising, with five months still remaining before voters head to the polls in this year’s midterm elections.
A new report by the Wesleyan Media Project shows candidates running in the 36 states that will elect governors this year have dropped $713 million on advertising. Outside groups have poured in another $355 million on behalf of the candidates they support or against those they oppose.
