States build runway for advanced air mobility

The nascent industry’s applications include air taxis, cargo delivery and emergency medical response.

States are entering the radar to prepare for the future of aviation, as the nascent advanced air mobility industry spawns public-private pilot projects, multistate alliances and legislation aimed at helping implement the technology.

Utah is one of the lead states for a U.S. Department of Transportation pilot program to test several advanced air mobility applications, including air taxis, cargo delivery and emergency medical response. The pilot features eight projects across 26 states that companies say could speed the path to commercialization.
