States are banning insurer limits on anesthesia coverage

Missouri is the latest to respond to Anthem’s controversial 2024 policy, which was rescinded.

Missouri has joined half a dozen states to ban insurance time limits on anesthesia, after public backlash over a since-rescinded policy from one of the country’s largest health insurers. 

Several lawmakers from both parties drafted legislation in response to Anthem’s controversial 2024 policy capping anesthesia coverage during medical procedures. The prohibition was tucked into a 110-page healthcare bill Republican Gov. Mike Kehoe signed Monday.
