CHICAGO – States are better positioned than the federal government to help smooth the impacts of artificial intelligence on the labor market through education and retraining programs, according to state lawmakers meeting here this week.
Connecticut Sen. James Maroney, a Democrat, and Utah Rep. Doug Fiefia, a Republican, touted states’ ability to nimbly respond to AI’s workforce disruption during a panel discussion titled “AI and the Future of Work” at the 2026 National Conference of State Legislatures’s annual Legislative Summit, which kicked off Monday.
