Arizona health care providers would be allowed to cross the California border to deliver abortions to patients fleeing their state’s Civil War-era abortion ban under “urgency legislation” announced Wednesday by California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
“Some judicial appointees and states want to send us back to the Middle Ages in fact, or at least to 1864 on people’s reproductive health and abortion rights,” California Rep. Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D) said at a press conference. “They’re proving that this is a fight we can win by focusing within our California borders.”
