California lawmakers are considering more than a dozen bills to regulate artificial intelligence, despite Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) wariness of guardrails that could stifle innovation.
At least 17 AI-related proposals are still in play after being passed by either the Assembly or the Senate before a key cutoff deadline last month, according to tracking by government affairs firm MultiState. The legislation is undergoing a second round of scrutiny in the opposite house, as a July 3 deadline looms for policy committees to finish their work for the year.
