Illinois enacts carbon capture bill to combat climate change

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) signed legislation Thursday that establishes regulations for new carbon capture and storage projects he said would help the state and nation meet emissions reduction goals, while also creating jobs and boosting the state economy.

“It has become all the more evident in the past few years that while the transition to green energy is inevitable, we need to use every tool at our disposal to slow down and address climate change,” Pritzker said. “Every marginal reduction in planetary warming that we can achieve, every fraction of a percent represents billions of dollars in savings for our economy here and likely thousands of lives across the nation.”
