Transportation spending accelerates, fueled by federal boost

States are plowing record amounts of money into roads, bridges and public transit with an assist from federal infrastructure dollars.

The bonanza follows decades of comparatively slower growth in transportation spending and comes as much of the nation’s infrastructure is reaching its end of life.
