California senator urges passage of pioneering AI safety bill

A California senator is making a final push to pass contentious artificial intelligence safety legislation before lawmakers adjourn later this week.

Sen. Scott Wiener’s (D) bill would create a first-in-the-nation framework for regulating the most powerful AI systems of the future with the goal of ensuring they do not go rogue and unleash catastrophic harm or mass casualties.
