Newsom signs bills targeting oil and gas industry

He also appeared confident that the Senate would return to Sacramento for a special session.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Wednesday signed three bills that would impose new regulations on the oil and gas industry, including requiring oil companies to cap a greater percentage of their idle oil wells in the state.

“It is absolutely right to hold the oil companies themselves accountable to addressing the issues around idle wells,” Newsom said at a signing ceremony.
