Louisiana governor to sign tax cut package

Lawmakers scaled back some of Landry’s proposals.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R) is poised to sign a package of income tax cuts and sales tax increases approved during this month’s special session, making Louisiana the latest red state to embrace a tax overhaul strategy popular with Republican lawmakers. 

It wasn’t a total win for Landry. The Republican-led legislature overwhelmingly approved Landry’s proposed personal income tax cuts. But lawmakers scaled back his plans to slash personal and corporate income tax rates, impose sales taxes on many more services, and eliminate key business tax breaks such as the state’s film tax credit.
