Montana bill would raise property taxes on second homes

It puts a novel twist on the homestead exemption.

As Republican state leaders nationwide push for property tax cuts, the Montana House has advanced a bill that would put a novel twist on the homestead exemption by lowering taxes on full-time residents and raising taxes on part-timers. 

Although the bill doesn’t explicitly target out-of-state residents with Montana vacation homes, they’re clearly in the legislature’s crosshairs.
