Dems shift climate focus to affordability

Upward pressure on energy costs is expected to intensify in the near future.

State policymakers appear to be taking a more cautious approach on their climate objectives this session, as the prospect of rising energy costs and President Trump’s election have contributed to a focus shift toward affordability.

In at least three Democratic-led statehouses, California, Connecticut and Vermont, legislators are seeking ways to cut consumer energy costs after years of pushing the envelope on climate change policy. Democratic governors have also heeded the cost-consciousness call.
