States push for AI workplace protections from ‘robo bosses’

A recent Pew survey found that more than half of workers worry about the technology disrupting their employment.

Lawmakers across the country are seeking to protect workers from displacement and to address concerns about “robo bosses” by introducing bills that would set boundaries for artificial intelligence’s role in the workplace.

The proposals come as companies turn to AI to assist with the hiring process and to monitor employee performance. Lawmakers want to ensure that workers are not in the dark about how AI is being deployed and protect them from algorithmic discrimination.
