New England lawmakers push for tougher privacy model

It’s the latest pushback by legislators against an industry-accepted framework enacted in nearly 20 states.

Democratic lawmakers across three New England states are working to enact stricter data privacy laws that limit companies to collecting only as much information as they need to process a consumer’s request. 

The effort by Vermont Rep. Monique Priestley (D), Massachusetts Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier (D) and Maine Rep. Amy Kuhn (D) is the latest pushback by legislators against an industry-accepted privacy framework that’s so far been enacted in nearly 20 states.
