Trump’s clean energy rollback scrambles plans in states

State policymakers, particularly from blue states, are considering the ways they may need to adjust to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act’s clean energy provisions, which speed up the phaseout of wind and solar subsidies while preserving benefits for nuclear and geothermal energy.

The law President Trump signed on July 4 comes at a tricky time for states. They are facing a projected 16% growth in electricity demand by 2030, driven primarily by the increased applications of artificial intelligence and the power-hungry data centers required for AI computing power.
