Pew: States face $86B transportation shortfall over next decade

Two-thirds of states are likely to fall short of their goals for maintaining roads and bridges over the next decade with nearly half facing a funding shortfall totaling more than $86 billion, according to a new report from the Pew Charitable Trusts.

The gap between state transportation needs and available funding highlights a structural deficiency that could imperil public safety and harm the economy, said the report released Wednesday.
