As feds shed jobs, states add positions

President Trump’s efforts to pare back government by slashing thousands of positions have marginally cut the size of the federal workforce in recent months, according to government data.

But those efforts are being counterbalanced in state and local governments, where agencies and departments are adding new jobs.
